Veteran actor Neena Gupta has expressed the pressing need for solutions to safeguard women, in the wake of the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last week.
Over the past few days, Gupta has been deeply concerned about women's safety. She asserted that while condemning such crimes is essential, finding tangible solutions is crucial. She suggested forming committees across different regions and states that could conduct surveillance and report on safety issues, though she acknowledged the complexity of achieving this change within society.
Referring to the government's 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' initiative focused on gender discrimination and women empowerment, Gupta pointed out that the next logical step after education is employment, where women also face safety risks. Gupta, who recently won the National Award for Best Supporting Actress for 'Uunchai', continues to advocate for women's safety and empowerment.
