In a significant development, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Kolkata has suspended the membership of Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The suspension comes amid an ongoing CBI probe into the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor earlier this month.

According to an order from the Indian Medical Association, the committee led by IMA national president Dr. RV Asokan took note of the case sua-motu. The order highlighted grievances from the victim's parents, who accused Ghosh of mishandling the situation and exhibiting a lack of empathy and sensitivity in dealing with the case.

The disciplinary committee of the IMA has unanimously decided to suspend Ghosh's membership, citing the disrepute brought to the profession. The CBI, meanwhile, has conducted a second round of polygraph tests and has three weeks to submit a progress report to the Calcutta High Court, with a hearing scheduled for September 17.
