In the early hours of Saturday, a prominent road in northern Kolkata was obstructed for almost five hours. The disruption occurred after a motorcyclist allegedly breached a barricaded zone where a night vigil was being held in memory of a rape-murder victim, police reported. The two-wheeler in question bore a police sticker.
The incident took place on B T Road at the Sinthi crossing near Rabindra Bharati University. The blockade was eventually cleared around 8.30 am, according to a police official.
Vigil participants claimed the motorcyclist was not penalized by the police, prompting them to block the road in protest. Traffic resumed to normal after the agitators lifted the blockade, police confirmed.
