In a significant reshuffle, Partha Sarathi Mahanta is poised to take over as the new Commissioner of Police in Guwahati, a position handed down from Diganta Barah. This news, confirmed in a statement from the Assam Home & Political Department on December 30, underscores pivotal changes in the state's police leadership.

Alongside Mahanta's appointment, several other key positions within the Assam Police are seeing transitions. Diganta Barah, the former Guwahati Police Commissioner, moves to assume the role of Inspector General of Police (SB) in Guwahati. These strategic moves aim to bolster the administrative acumen within the force.

The reshuffling continues with Akhilesh Kumar Singh taking on the position of Inspector General of Police (Law & Order), while retaining his duties as IGP (Communication). Lachit Baruah, managing director of Assam Police Housing Corporation, also has his role reaffirmed, reflecting a coherent strategy in operational management for the police department. These appointments are effective immediately, aligning with the state's goals for improved governance and security.
