Sarah Sjostrom Aims for Double Glory at Paris Olympics

Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom will compete in the 100m freestyle event at the Paris Olympics, thanks to a favorable schedule providing extra rest before her main event, the 50m freestyle.

At the Swedish team's hotel in Eskilstuna, Sjostrom told Reuters that the two days' rest between the events made her reconsider her initial decision to only swim the 50m freestyle. She had previously focused on the shorter distance, questioning her choice to exclude the 100m event.

Training for the 50m freestyle for years, Sjostrom competed in the 100m at Rome's Sette Colli meet in June, performing better than expected. With one gold in butterfly at Rio and other Olympic medals, Sjostrom aims to win her first freestyle gold in Paris.
