Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Sanjay Singh asserted on Monday that India has the potential to win four to five medals in women's wrestling at the 2028 Olympic Games, provided certain institutions cease interfering with the national federation's operations.

Although the WFI remains suspended by the Sports Ministry, the global wrestling body UWW lifted its suspension in February after the federation conducted elections. The Sports Ministry had originally suspended the WFI on December 24, following elections in which Sanjay Singh was elected president.

Singh emphasized the need for autonomy in the WFI's work to ensure the country excels in women's wrestling at the next Olympics. He also urged veteran wrestler Vinesh Phogat to reconsider her retirement, insisting her experience is vital for inspiring the new generation of wrestlers.
