A fuel truck explosion near Miragoane, Haiti, killed 24 people and injured 40. Half of the survivors have third-degree burns. The incident occurred after the truck's gas tank was punctured. Prime Minister Garry Conille visited the site. A similar incident in Cap-Haitien killed at least 60 people in 2021.
A fuel truck explosion on Haiti's southern peninsula claimed 24 lives and left 40 injured, half of whom suffered third-degree burns, the government reported.
Prime Minister Garry Conille, who visited the site near Miragoane in Nippes, stated that some critically injured victims were airlifted for specialized medical care.
Witnesses mentioned that the explosion occurred after the truck's gas tank was punctured, prompting people to rush and collect fuel. Similar incidents have previously resulted in high fatalities, notably in Cap-Haitien last year. Haiti remains in a state of emergency due to widespread gang violence and humanitarian crises.
