Wrestling stars Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat visited former Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday, sparking rumors of their candidacy in the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections.

Speculation is rife about Punia and Phogat’s political debut, though Congress officials, including AICC general secretary Deepak Babaria, promise clarity soon. A photograph of the meeting was shared on the Congress’ official X handle.

Both athletes were active in protests last year against sexual harassment allegations involving former BJP MP and Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The Congress has so far announced candidates for 66 out of 90 seats, with a complete list expected shortly. Haryana will vote on October 5, and the results will be announced on October 8.
