The Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Wednesday suspended the membership of Dr. Sandip Ghosh, former Principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, amid a CBI investigation into the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor.
IMA President Dr. RV Ashokan announced that a disciplinary committee formed at the IMA headquarters addressed the grievances presented by the victim's parents and several doctors' associations. The Bengal branch of the IMA and other medical groups had expressed concerns that Ghosh had tarnished the profession's reputation.
On August 26, the CBI concluded a second series of polygraph tests on Dr. Ghosh. The investigation began following a High Court directive to probe alleged corruption at the medical college. The Calcutta High Court has requested a progress report from the CBI by September 17. Additionally, the Supreme Court ordered the hospital's security to be managed by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
