Supreme Court Criticizes West Bengal Government Over Trainee Doctor Case; Dharmendra Pradhan Welcomes Observations

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan welcomed the Supreme Court's observation on the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, asserting that the top court's comments have 'exposed' the West Bengal government's failings. During proceedings, significant attention was directed toward the shortcomings of the West Bengal government in addressing the situation at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

'The Supreme Court's comments have exposed the working of the West Bengal government,' Pradhan told ANI on Tuesday. 'There should be no place for such insensitivity as shown by the state government in handling the incident.' Pradhan expressed hope that state leaders would take responsibility and address the issues highlighted.

The Supreme Court questioned the West Bengal government on the delayed registration of the FIR and criticized the circulation of the deceased's name and images on social media, violating her privacy. The Court directed all media platforms to remove such content immediately.

The Court also established a 10-member National Task Force to recommend measures for preventing violence and ensuring safe working conditions for medical professionals. The trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
