The Congress has welcomed the announcement of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir but criticized the BJP-led government for not restoring full statehood. The recent measures have increased the lieutenant governor's powers, weakening the elected government. The elections will begin on September 18 and the results will be declared on October 4.

The Election Commission has declared dates for the highly anticipated assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir. However, the Congress Party has criticized the BJP-led central government for its handling of statehood demands.
According to Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, the Union government's recent moves have significantly increased the powers of the lieutenant governor, undermining the elected state government. The three-phase elections will commence on September 18 and conclude on October 1, with results announced on October 4.
The announcement also includes poll dates for the Haryana assembly. Congress argues that these elections offer a chance to address what's been called 'insensitive' governance and unmet demands for full statehood for Jammu and Kashmir.
