The head of the Federal Aviation Administration is scheduled to testify on Sept. 25 before the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, focusing on the oversight of Boeing's safety practices, a committee aide revealed to Reuters.

Senator Richard Blumenthal's committee, which sharply scrutinized former Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun in June over the company's safety record, will lead the hearing. The session, titled 'FAA Oversight of Boeing's Broken Safety Culture,' comes in the wake of increased regulatory scrutiny since a Jan. 5 mid-air emergency involving a new Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX.

FAA head Whitaker has acknowledged that more should have been done prior to the incident and has since intensified the agency's oversight efforts.
