A team of experts from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), Delhi, arrived in Kolkata to conduct polygraph tests in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor, sources revealed on Saturday. The polygraph test will be conducted on former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh, main accused Sanjay Roy, four doctors, and one volunteer.

Sources further disclosed that while the main accused's test would be administered in jail, the others have been summoned to the CBI office in Kolkata. Earlier in the day, Kolkata police confirmed that all documents relating to the alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar, as ordered by the court, have been handed over to the CBI by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

On Friday, the Calcutta High Court transferred the probe into the financial irregularities involving Dr. Sandip Ghosh from the SIT to the CBI. The court also authorized the CBI to conduct polygraph tests on Dr. Ghosh and others linked to the incident, following a petition by Akhtar Ali, the hospital's former deputy superintendent. The CBI, already investigating the rape and murder case, has three weeks to submit a progress report to be presented on September 17.

In a separate ruling, the Sealdah Court on Friday remanded Sanjay Roy, the main accused in the rape and murder of the trainee doctor, to 14 days of judicial custody. His custody will remain under CBI supervision until September 6, 2024. The trainee doctor was discovered dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. (ANI)
