New Zealand Women's Football Coach Resigns Amid Post-Investigation Turmoil
Jitka Klimkova, New Zealand women's football coach, has resigned halfway through her six-year contract. Despite being cleared in an investigation, Klimkova cited an incomplete 'restorative process' for her departure. Interim coach Michael Mayne will continue as the team plans for the 2027 World Cup.
Jitka Klimkova, the head coach for New Zealand's women's football team, has stepped down midway through her six-year tenure. Despite being exonerated in a recent workplace investigation, Klimkova cited an unfinished 'restorative process' as her reason for departing immediately.
In her absence, interim coach Michael Mayne led the team through a tough Olympic group stage, suffering three consecutive defeats. Mayne will continue in the role as New Zealand prepares for the 2027 World Cup, according to a New Zealand Football (NZF) statement.
NZF CEO, Andrew Pragnell, expressed gratitude for Klimkova's contributions, noting her achievement of securing the team's first-ever FIFA Women's World Cup victory. Klimkova will remain with NZF for another six months to support the high-performance department.
