The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has suspended Dr. Sandip Ghosh, former principal of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College, amidst an ongoing CBI investigation into the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor earlier this month.
The decision was influenced by grievances from the victim's parents regarding Ghosh's handling of the incident, citing a lack of empathy and sensitivity. The move was also supported by the IMA Bengal state branch and other doctor associations, who claimed Ghosh brought disrepute to the profession.
The disciplinary action follows recent CBI activities, including polygraph tests and a High Court mandate for a progress report by September 17. The Supreme Court has also ordered security handover of the college to the CISF in light of the incident.
