Bharatiya Janata Party leader Shehzad Poonawalla on Sunday accused the Trinamool Congress of 'destroying evidence' in the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Poonawalla criticized leaders from the INDIA bloc for their silence on the issue.

'Instead of apprehending the culprits who vandalized RG Kar Medical College, the TMC government is targeting citizens, doctors, and political opponents. They speak of upholding the Constitution, but where are Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Vadra, Mallikarjun Kharge, or Priyanka Chaturvedi? None of them have uttered a word,' Poonawalla told ANI.

The incident occurred on August 9, leading to nationwide protests within the medical community. On August 14, a mob vandalized the hospital premises, prompting security forces to intervene. To restore law and order, Kolkata police enforced Section 163 around the RG Kar Medical College for seven days starting August 18.
