In ongoing developments, former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, has been taken to the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) Anti-Corruption Branch. This follows his involvement in a corruption case, officially registered by the CBI on August 24. The investigation into these allegations was spurred by a directive from the Calcutta High Court.

On that morning, a Special Investigation Team from the Calcutta High Court submitted essential documents to the CBI at Nizam Palace, prompting the investigative agency to file an FIR. The FIR copy was then promptly submitted to the Alipur Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. This swift action underscores the seriousness of the allegations facing Dr. Ghosh.

In a significant move, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) of Kolkata suspended Dr. Ghosh's membership as the CBI probe into his alleged corruption continues. Further complicating the matter, the CBI recently concluded a second round of polygraph tests on Dr. Ghosh, which are part of a broader investigation into the rape and murder of a woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College.

The Calcutta High Court has mandated that the CBI submit a progress report on their investigation by September 17. Additionally, the Supreme Court has placed the security of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital under the jurisdiction of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), following a suo motu case concerning the incident. The case has gained nationwide attention, particularly after the tragic death of the trainee doctor on August 9.
