The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, on Monday in connection with alleged financial misconduct at the institution, official sources disclosed.

Ghosh, who had been interrogated for the 15th day at the CBI's Salt Lake office, was questioned regarding the alleged rape and murder of a post-graduate trainee doctor on August 9. Following extensive questioning, he was taken to the agency's Nizam Palace office in Kolkata, where he was formally arrested by the anti-corruption wing.

Dr. Akhtar Ali, the hospital's former deputy superintendent, had filed multiple complaints detailing financial irregularities during Ghosh's tenure as principal. The state government had already placed Ghosh on leave after the trainee's murder came to light.
