Amid nationwide protests condemning the rape and murder of a trainee doctor, RG Kar Medical College's former Principal Sandip Ghosh arrived at the Central Bureau of Investigation's office in Kolkata on Saturday. He urged the public to stop spreading rumors about his alleged arrest by the investigating agency. "Those who are saying that I'm arrested by CBI kindly don't spread fake rumours. I didn't have face-to-face interrogation with the accused Sanjoy Roy," Ghosh said upon his arrival.

A team from the CBI, including the Joint Director and Additional Director, also arrived at the CBI Special Crime Branch at the CGO complex in Kolkata. Meanwhile, doctors continue their protests nationwide against the heinous crime.

Resident doctors at Rajkot Civil Hospital and members of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) held protests against the incident at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. The IMA declared a 24-hour withdrawal of services by all modern medicine doctors across the country. Emergencies and casualties will still function, but no OPDs or elective surgeries will be performed from 6 am on Saturday to 6 am on Sunday, August 18, 2024.

Residents Doctors' Associations at UCMS and GTBH in Delhi announced continued strikes, including a General body meeting. Services such as OPD, elective services, and laboratory services will be shut down. Similar protests were organized in Chennai by resident doctors at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital and Madras Medical College.

A protesting resident doctor in Chennai noted that emergency services would continue during the strike. "In accordance with the IMA notification, we are going for a boycott of all our elective services. Emergency services will continue. All we are asking for is justice for the victim and her family. It has been a week but no serious investigation has been done in the case. Some scapegoats have been arrested, but the original culprits are still out there," the doctor said.

On August 9, a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered on duty at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, igniting nationwide strikes and protests by the medical community. The incident triggered massive protests, and the hospital campus was vandalized by a mob, forcing security personnel to intervene. (ANI)
