After the Supreme Court granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia in the Delhi excise policy case, Congress MP Karti Chidambaram criticized the 17-month pre-trial incarceration as unfair. Speaking to ANI, Chidambaram expressed full support for the Supreme Court's decision, but emphasized that such long pre-trial detentions are unacceptable.

'I welcome the judgement of the Supreme Court. Pre-trial arrest is not acceptable. You cannot keep people incarcerated before they are found guilty by a trial process. Secondly, the cases filed by the ED and the CBI are filed on documents basis, so what is the purpose of keeping someone in judicial custody for so long?' he questioned. Chidambaram appreciated the intervention of the Supreme Court but wished it had come sooner.

Earlier, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut also reacted to the bail granted to Sisodia. Speaking to ANI, Raut highlighted that Sisodia's 17-month detention was deceitful and a violation of his rights. 'If a person is put in jail by deceit, and is not even allowed bail, his rights are violated. I have also felt the same pain. The government in this country has no proper law and order,' Raut stated, adding that no money was found in Sisodia's residence and accusing the BJP of being the main culprit in money laundering in the country.
