Congress MP Shivaji Kalge has urged the Maharashtra government to provide immediate relief to farmers in the Latur and Nanded districts, who have been severely affected by recent heavy rains and subsequent flooding.
In a meeting with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis in Latur, Kalge demanded a waiver of farm loans for the impacted farmers. His memorandum highlighted the extensive damage to crops such as soybeans, urad, and cotton, stressing the need for prompt and unconditional assistance.
Kalge pointed out that farmers in the Marathwada region are facing severe financial distress due to mounting debts and crop losses, and emphasized that a loan waiver would provide much-needed relief.
