Khammam district has been grappling with extensive flooding caused by unprecedented widespread rainfall over the past couple of days. District Collector Muzammil Khan described the situation as one not seen in the past 30 years.

'We are experiencing severe floods in our district unlike in the past 30 years because of the 200mm rains. I appreciate all the work taken up by the officials, public representatives and others over the past 2 days. We could save many lives because of this,' Khan said while speaking to ANI. 'We are now moving forward with setting up required necessities and rehabilitation centres. Our focus will also include health camps, availability of food grains, elderly, and handicapped people. All residents should remain alert. We have faced unprecedented floods and numerous challenges. I assure you that all necessary aid will be provided by the government,' he added.

The heavy rains have caused the Munneru River's water level to rise significantly in Prakash Nagar, Khammam, submerging residential areas. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy plans to inspect the flood-affected areas on Monday after a meeting on damage assessment and relief measures at the Integrated Command Control Centre in Hyderabad.

In a post on X, the CM detailed his orders for relief and rescue operations. 'A call center should be set up in the collectorates and linked with the command control center. Police battalions should be trained on the NDRF model for emergency services during heavy rains. Families of those who died due to floods will receive 5 lakh in financial assistance,' read the post.

'Compensation should be increased for cattle, goats, and sheep that died in floods. A comprehensive report on the flood damage should be submitted to the Centre. A letter seeking central assistance should be sent immediately, asking the Centre to consider it a national calamity. Rs. 5 crore has been allocated for immediate assistance to the collectors of the affected districts Khammam, Bhadradri Kota Gudem, Mahbubabad, and Suryapet,' added the post. (ANI)
