BJP leader, Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi, has been appointed as a member of the Press Council of India. The nomination was made by Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar under the provisions of the Press Council Act, 1978.
Dr. Trivedi, a prominent BJP spokesperson and member of Rajya Sabha, was elected to the Upper House in 2019 after a by-election in Uttar Pradesh. The seat became vacant following the passing of former Union Minister Arun Jaitley.
The Press Council of India, established in 1966 following the First Press Commission's recommendations, works to safeguard the freedom of the press and enhance news standards. Chaired by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, it comprises 28 members, typically led by a retired Supreme Court judge.
