SheDrives, Pakistan's first ride-sharing service exclusively for transgender people and women, was launched in Lahore last weekend. The initiative aims to protect these communities from discrimination and harassment, said Ammaz Farooqi, the company's founder and chief executive.

Currently, the service is available only in Lahore, where it caters to an estimated 30,000 transgender individuals. There are plans for future expansion. Farooqi expressed optimism about creating a more inclusive society.

In recent years, Pakistan has made strides in transgender rights, including a hotline for trans individuals and a government-run school in Multan. However, significant social challenges remain, highlighted by opposition from hard-line clerics to proposed legal amendments recognizing transgender identities.
