Two passengers were killed and 34 injured when eight coaches of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed near Gonda in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, authorities confirmed.

Emergency teams were dispatched to the site between Motiganj and Jhilahi railway stations, approximately 150 kilometers from the state capital Lucknow.

Loco pilot reported hearing a blast before the derailment, but details remain unclear. Initial confusion existed about the death toll; officials first cited four fatalities but later confirmed two deaths. The deceased were identified as Saroj Kumar Singh from Bihar, and Rahul from Chandigarh.
