For Chennai residents, the iconic Marina Beach has always been a beloved evening retreat. However, it was also notorious for the unpleasant stench from unhygienic public restrooms.
That chapter is now closed. The Greater Chennai Corporation's Singara Chennai 2.0 campaign has ushered in a new era of cleanliness and accessibility. Partnering with DRRSB PCT One Pvt Ltd, the initiative has successfully commissioned well-designed, hygienic public toilets across the beachfront area.
The project began in September 2023 and has already seen the renovation and construction of over 2,500 seats, with plans for more. This initiative not only provides local employment but has also fostered a sense of community responsibility. Janitors now have stable incomes, and the general public enjoys clean, well-maintained facilities, enhancing the overall beach experience.
