On Thursday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation for several key infrastructure projects in Cachar district. A highlight was the 340-metre bridge over the Barak river in the Silghat area of Lakhipur assembly constituency, projected to cost Rs 87 crore and aimed at boosting transport and communication.

Sarma also conducted the 'Bhumi pujan' for a model degree college in Dholai assembly constituency. The college, which will house 33 classrooms and five laboratories, is expected to become a significant educational hub. With an estimated cost of Rs 35 crore, the college is slated for completion by 2026 as part of an initiative to establish world-class higher education institutions in Assam.

Additionally, the CM inaugurated a new nuclear medicine facility and nuclear accelerator at the Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre. During his visit, which is his first since the Lok Sabha elections, Sarma interacted with students at Assam University in Silchar, expressing gratitude for their support in the 2024 polls and drawing attention to the BJP's success in Silchar and Karimganj. His three-day trip includes visits to Cachar, Hailakandi, and Karimganj districts.
