The 78th meeting of the Network Planning Group (NPG) under the PM Gati Shakti initiative was convened in New Delhi to scrutinize eighteen critical road infrastructure projects, stated the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Friday. This session was presided over by Rajeev Singh Thakur, additional secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).

The primary focus of the meeting was the evaluation of road projects proposed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). These projects span various states including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Bihar, and align with the integrated planning principles of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (NMP).

Highlights include the review of the Madurai-Kollam ICR, a 4-lane corridor covering 129.92 km between Tamil Nadu and Kerala, and the Madurai-Dhanushkodi Highway to boost connectivity to major religious and tourist spots. In Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh, discussions included the Belagavi Ring Road, Tumkur Bypass, and the Bhopal-Sagar Economic Corridor. Maharashtra and Telangana projects such as the Ahmednagar-Solapur and Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur corridors were evaluated. Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Bihar are set for upgrades, with projects like the Badvel-Nellore Corridor and the Sambalpur Ring Road aimed at reducing congestion and fostering economic growth.

The NPG's assessments adhere to the PM Gati Shakti's principles of multimodal infrastructure development, last-mile connectivity, and synchronized implementation, which are paramount for integrating transport modes and delivering substantial socio-economic benefits across the regions. (ANI)
