NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is set to succeed German diplomat Christoph Heusgen as the chair of the Munich Security Conference, according to information obtained by Reuters on Thursday.

The event, frequently dubbed 'Davos for defense,' serves as a significant platform for political and military leaders to convene. Held annually in Munich, the conference will see Stoltenberg taking over after his departure from NATO in October. Stoltenberg has held his NATO position since 2014, and former Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has been named as his successor come June.

NATO's press office was unavailable for comment regarding the transition.
