Jens Stoltenberg, NATO's Secretary General, is set to replace German diplomat Christoph Heusgen as the chair of the Munich Security Conference, Reuters reported on Thursday, citing a source familiar with the matter.
The Munich Security Conference, often called the 'Davos for defence,' is a key international platform for political and military leaders, held annually in Munich, Germany. Stoltenberg, who has served as NATO Secretary General since 2014, will leave his role in October. Former Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte was announced as his successor in June.
A NATO official, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated, "We do not comment on rumours. Mr. Stoltenberg is fully focused on the completion of his tenure as NATO Secretary General."
