The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rainfall in eight Odisha districts on Wednesday.

The IMD's Bhubaneswar regional centre has issued a yellow alert for Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, and Deogarh, forecasting rainfall between 7 to 11 cm.

Additionally, heavy rainfall warnings have been extended to Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Deogarh for Thursday.

Light to moderate rainfall is projected in the north and south Odisha districts.

From 8.30 am to 5.30 pm on Tuesday, heavy rainfall hit most of Odisha, with Bolangir receiving the highest rainfall at 92 mm.

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old girl, identified as Preeti Behera, was swept away while crossing a canal in Angul district. She was returning home after her computer classes. Special Relief Commissioner Satyabrata Sahu has directed the Angul collector to deploy a fire service team to locate her.
