Muslim Welfare Committee Offers Compromise to Seal Unauthorized Portion of Sanjauli Mosque

A Muslim welfare committee in Shimla has requested the municipal commissioner to seal and potentially demolish an unauthorized extension of the Sanjauli mosque to maintain community harmony. The gesture has been welcomed by Hindu organizations, aiming to preserve peace amid escalating tensions.

In an effort to diffuse rising tensions in Shimla over the Sanjauli mosque, a Muslim welfare committee has requested the municipal commissioner to seal an unauthorized section of the mosque, also offering to demolish it if mandated by the court.

The committee, including the mosque's Imam and Waqf board members, submitted their request to Commissioner Bhupendra Attri, emphasizing their commitment to preserving local harmony. The move has been lauded by Hindu groups, which had previously called for the mosque's demolition.

The incident follows a protest where clashes resulted in injuries. The municipal corporation's court is set to further review the case on October 5.
