CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury Passes Away at 72

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury died at AIIMS in New Delhi at the age of 72 after battling a prolonged illness. He was admitted to AIIMS on August 19 for treatment of an acute respiratory tract infection and later suffered complications. His body has been donated for medical research.

CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury passed away at AIIMS in New Delhi on Thursday. The veteran leader was 72.

Yechury had been in critical condition for several days and was on respiratory support. Earlier, the CPI(M) disclosed that he was being treated for an acute respiratory tract infection in the ICU at AIIMS.

In a statement, Yechury's family revealed they had donated his body to the institute for educational and research purposes. The CPI(M) announced that his body would be available for public viewing at the party headquarters in Delhi before being handed over to AIIMS.
