A fatal explosion at Sadhana Nitro Chem Limited in Maharashtra's Raigad district claimed the lives of three workers and injured three others during welding work on Thursday, according to police reports.

The incident happened at 11.15 am at the chemical plant located in Dhatav MIDC, Roha town, about 110 km from Mumbai, confirmed Raigad Superintendent of Police Somnath Gharge.

The victims, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, were performing welding tasks around a methanol storage tank when a spark set off the explosion, said another official. Basuki Yadav (45), Dineshkumar Kharban (60), and Sanjeevkumar (20) died in the blast. The injured were initially treated at Roha's state-run hospital before being transferred to the National Burns Centre in Airoli, Navi Mumbai. Fire brigade and police units quickly responded, putting out the subsequent fire within half an hour. Search and firefighting operations are ongoing, with autopsies ordered for the deceased.
