In a significant move to ensure a secure environment for the upcoming assembly elections, Jammu and Kashmir's top police officer, Director General of Police R R Swain, conducted a detailed security assessment in the Doda and Kishtwar districts on Friday.

The visit comes as eight constituencies in the Ramban, Doda, and Kishtwar districts are set for polling in the first phase on September 18. Apart from the electoral preparations, Swain also reviewed the security arrangements at the Machail Mata Mandir in Machail Padder, where a yatra is currently underway.

Swain chaired crucial security review meetings and election preparedness sessions at the District Police Office (DPO) in Bhaderwah and Kishtwar. During these meetings, he stressed the importance of collaboration among the Police, CRPF, Army, civil administration, and intelligence agencies. Strategies for troop accommodation and required amenities for election deployment were also discussed. Earlier, the DGP paid homage to J&K Police martyrs at the martyrs' memorial in Kishtwar by laying wreaths.
