Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi will embark on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir starting Wednesday, focusing on pivotal meetings ahead of the forthcoming assembly elections.

Initially, the leaders were to visit Jammu first and then proceed to Srinagar. However, plans have changed, and they will commence their visit from Srinagar, confirmed AICC General Secretary Gulam Ahmed Mir to PTI.

Mir, currently stationed in Srinagar, mentioned that the duo will hold extensive meetings with party leaders and workers across 10 districts in the Kashmir valley on Thursday.

Following their engagements in Srinagar, they will travel to Jammu in the afternoon to continue their interactions with cadres from 10 districts of the region. They plan to return to Delhi thereafter.

"They will gather comprehensive feedback on grassroots preparations for the elections," Mir stated. This visit follows a meeting where Kharge and Gandhi consulted general secretaries, in-charges, and screening committee members of four poll-bound states on Monday.

The elections for the 90-member Jammu and Kashmir assembly are slated to be conducted in three phases: September 18, September 25, and October 1.
