The FBI has launched an investigation into an alleged assassination attempt targeting Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. The incident took place Sunday at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, where Trump was golfing.

According to law enforcement officials, the Secret Service spotted a man with a rifle hidden in the bushes and opened fire at the would-be assassin. The suspect eventually fled the scene but was later apprehended on a nearby highway.

This marks the second recent attempt on Trump's life. In July, a gunman managed to wound Trump in the ear during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, which the FBI also classified as an assassination attempt. Historical records indicate that there have been at least 15 direct assaults on American presidents and candidates, with five ending in fatality.
