Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has thrown his support behind a Florida ballot initiative to legalize recreational marijuana for adults 21 and older. The announcement came via social media platform Truth Social late Sunday.
Trump's backing of Amendment 3 diverges from some fellow Republicans, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The former president's stance adds intrigue ahead of his face-off against Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris in the Nov. 5 presidential election, where polls show a tight race.
In his post, Trump also endorsed legislative efforts to facilitate banking services for cannabis businesses complying with state laws and pledged to advance marijuana research and related laws if elected president.
