Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday leveled serious accusations against the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), alleging that the institution's construction activities have resulted in severe waterlogging in Guwahati.

Sarma identified USTM, founded by Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque, as a significant contributor to the city's recent flooding problems. He claimed the university's demolition of hills on its campus to build new structures has exacerbated waterlogging issues.

During a press conference, Sarma emphasized that the university's actions, which he termed as 'flood jihad,' have led to substantial flooding in areas like Jorabat, with water levels reaching waist height. He also noted that most of USTM's students and teachers are from Assam and implied that boycotting the university could mitigate the problem. USTM officials were not available for comments on the accusations.
