In a significant bust, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has confiscated smuggled foreign-origin gold valued at over Rs 2.94 crore near Hyderabad, arresting two individuals involved in the illegal act, officials announced on Thursday.

Acting on precise intelligence inputs about the movement of smuggled gold from Kolkata to Hyderabad, DRI officers intercepted a car on the outskirts of Hyderabad on September 11. The investigation revealed that the gold was cleverly concealed in two specially created secret compartments within the vehicle.

According to a press release from DRI's Hyderabad Zonal Unit, the gold, weighing 3982.070 grams and valued at Rs 2,94,55,372, was hidden in two cavities—one beneath the dashboard on the left side of the driver's seat, and another in the trunk frame of the car. Both the gold and the vehicle have been seized, and the two arrested individuals are being held under the Customs Act 1962. Further investigations are ongoing.
