13 Years of Deprivation: Meghalaya Village Excluded from Public Distribution System

Domtynrong, a village in Meghalaya's South West Khasi Hills district, has not received food grains under the public distribution system for over 13 years. Mistakenly classified as uninhabited in the 2011 Socio-Economic and Caste Census, it has also been excluded from government schemes for over 20 years.

In a shocking revelation at the Assembly, local MLA Renikton Tongkhar disclosed that Domtynrong village in South West Khasi Hills has been deprived of food grains under the public distribution system (PDS) for over 13 years.

The village, home to more than 50 households, was mistakenly listed as uninhabited in the 2011 Socio-Economic and Caste Census, resulting in its exclusion from the National Food Security Act (NFSA) beneficiary list, as confirmed by Food and Civil Supplies Minister Comingone Ymbon.

The government recognizes the significant impact on Domtynrong's residents and plans to rectify the issue in the next SECC. Efforts are ongoing to engage with the Centre to revise coverage limits and address the village's exclusion from essential schemes.
