Lalduhoma's Mediation Visit to Imphal: A Potential Step Towards Resolving Meitei-Kuki-Zo Conflict

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma plans to visit Imphal to address ethnic violence between Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities. During a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Lalduhoma expressed his willingness to mediate. The conflict has seen over 226 deaths and significant property damage since May 2023.

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma is preparing for a potentially pivotal visit to Imphal to engage with Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh over the ongoing ethnic violence involving the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities. The announcement came via an official statement released on Friday.

Despite the planned visit, it remains unclear whether Lalduhoma will act as a mediator between the conflicting parties. Amid a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on August 1, Lalduhoma mentioned that Singh had extended an invitation and he expressed his readiness to accept.

The ethnic violence in Manipur has resulted in 226 deaths since May 2023, with 39 people still missing and over 59,000 displaced. The conflict has also led to extensive property damage, further necessitating urgent intervention.
