Mizoram Police Seize Methamphetamine Worth Rs 5.10 Crore, Arrest Two

Mizoram police seized 39.257 kg of methamphetamine worth Rs 5.10 crore and apprehended two individuals. According to Lalbiakthanga Khiangte, IGP (L&O) of Mizoram police, the operation was carried out on August 27 based on specific intelligence. A team of CID (SB) intercepted a goods carrier truck near Kulikawn East Presbyterian Church.

The operation resulted in the confiscation of 39.257 kg of methamphetamine, equivalent to 4 lakh tablets, hidden inside 17 electric air coolers. The estimated value of the seized drugs is Rs 5,10,34,100, revealed the senior police official. The truck had transported the drugs from Zokhawthar in Champhai district. Both the driver and receiver of the psychotropic substances, identified as MC Lalnunsiama (34) and Vanlalhruaii (28), were detained at the scene and handed over to the Special Narcotics Police Station along with the contraband.

The apprehended individuals are now facing charges under the NDPS Act. The Mizoram police have launched an investigation into the backward and forward linkages of the drug network. This comes a month after another significant seizure where 14.082 kg of methamphetamine and 2.804 kg of heroin worth over Rs 42.38 crore were confiscated, resulting in three arrests.
