A Central team commenced a three-day evaluation in Telangana on Wednesday to assess the damage wrought by recent heavy rains and floods.

Led by Col K P Singh, the six-member team discussed the situation with state Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari, who detailed the damage and response efforts.

Despite short notice of the weather alert, swift administrative actions minimized loss of life, said officials. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and his team have been actively monitoring and aiding relief operations, resulting in immediate fund allocation for affected districts.

The Chief Secretary advocated for relaxed guidelines and support from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to bolster state's relief capabilities and specialized rescue teams.

The ecological impact, including the uprooting of approximately 50,000 trees due to severe weather in Mulugu district, was underscored.

Special Chief Secretary (Disaster Management) Arvind Kumar reported initial damage estimates of Rs 5,438 crore, with assessments ongoing. The Central team observed a photo exhibition depicting the widespread damage and plans to evaluate flood-hit areas in Khammam and Mahbubabad districts.
