Telangana CM Announces Rs 5 Crore Aid, Ex-Gratia for Flood Victims Following PM Modi's Call

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Monday announced an immediate aid of Rs 5 crore to the flood-affected districts of Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahbubabad, and Suryapet. Additionally, Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia will be provided to the families of those who died in the floods. The Chief Minister instructed authorities to respond swiftly to the public damages and assured increased compensation for the loss of cattle, goats, and sheep.

According to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), the state government plans to submit a comprehensive report on the flood damages to the Centre. CM Reddy will also write a letter to the Union government seeking immediate aid and flood relief, appealing for the floods to be declared a national calamity. During a review of relief operations in the rain-affected areas, CM Reddy urged officials to remain vigilant in regions with heavy rain forecasts and ordered district collectors to establish Call Centres.

Furthermore, officials were instructed to set up an emergency response system at the Command Control Center. The Greater Hyderabad Police Commissioners were tasked with addressing traffic issues during heavy rains. CM Reddy also prioritized repairing damaged roads and resolving power cut issues. On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called CM Reddy to discuss the flood situation. PM Modi commended the state government's high alert measures and assured helicopter deployment for emergencies.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Nirmal, Nizamabad, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, and Kamareddy districts over the next 24 hours. Thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected in several districts.
