The Mizoram government has ordered the closure of schools in four districts on Wednesday due to heavy rain, according to officials.

District administrations in Aizawl, Lunglei, Hnahthial, and Mamit issued public notices stating that all schools will remain closed as a precautionary measure due to inclement weather conditions and torrential rain.

According to a notice from the Aizawl district administration, landslides, mudslides, and rock falls have been reported in several areas of Aizawl town and surrounding villages, with the possibility of more incidents in certain areas within the district.

Last week, schools were already closed for five consecutive days in Aizawl and Kolasib districts, and in south Mizoram's Siaha district for a few days due to heavy rain.

The state has been experiencing torrential rainfall since August 20, leading to landslides and landslips in several places.

Officials stated that landslides have blocked crucial roads in Aizawl and other parts of the state. Efforts are ongoing to clear these roads.

Fortunately, no casualties have been reported from these incidents. However, since March, at least 42 people have been killed in landslides and other natural calamities across the state, as per the state disaster management and rehabilitation department.
