Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh condemned Tuesday's attack on a BJP spokesperson from the Thadou community in Churachandpur. Through a post on X, Singh branded the assault a direct challenge to the state's unity and integrity.

Singh referred to the incident involving Michael Lamjathang's family, a significant figure among Manipur's ethnic tribes and a BJP spokesperson, as an act of cowardice. 'I consider this harm inflicted on one of our recognized tribes a direct challenge to the state's unity and integrity. Attacks on any community of Manipur's recognized tribes, as well as the BJP spokesperson's family, are condemned in the strongest terms. We will initiate appropriate legal action against the culprits,' he asserted.

Manipur Cabinet Minister Govindas Konthoujam similarly condemned the incident, deeming it an attack on the entire Thadou community. 'I strongly condemn the barbaric attack on BJP Manipur Spokesperson Michael Lamjathang Haokip in Peniel village, Churachandpur. This cowardly act against his home and family assaults not just an individual but the entire Thadou community and our civilization,' he stated. 'Such heinous acts reveal the mentality of those unable to engage in logical debate, resorting instead to violence. We must stand united against such attempts to silence voices through fear,' he added.

Additionally, a joint operation on August 26 saw Security Forces apprehend six cadres of the banned KYKL group in Awang Potsangbam, Imphal West District. Authorities recovered multiple weapons, ammunition, a vehicle, and various other items. A follow-up raid yielded more firearms and ammunition.
