Tragedy Strikes Lebanese Mountain Refuge Amid Worsening Conflict
A family's refuge in the Keserwan mountains of Lebanon became a tragedy when Israeli warplanes struck Maaysrah, killing 16 people and wounding over 30 others. The attack, part of ongoing Israeli airstrikes, targeted a village thought to be safe, highlighting the increasing civilian casualties and devastating impact of the conflict.
The Amro family household in Lebanon's lush Keserwan mountains had become a sanctuary for families seeking refuge from the encroaching war in the country's south.
By September 25, over 50 people from three families gathered in two buildings at the center of Maaysrah, a Shi'ite Muslim village. Despite being considered safe, Israeli warplanes struck the site, killing 16 people, including two men and 14 women and children, according to family members, local officials, and medical sources.
More than 30 people were injured, half of them children. The buildings included the home of a deceased Hezbollah fighter, but no active combatants were present at the time, according to local sources. The strike is part of a broader pattern of Israeli airstrikes leading to increased civilian casualties, as reported by the Lebanese health ministry.
