Haiti Fuel Truck Explosion: Tragedy Strikes Near Miragoane

A devastating fuel truck explosion near Miragoane on Haiti's southern peninsula has tragically claimed 24 lives and inflicted severe injuries on many survivors. Government reports revealed that of the 40 injured, half suffered third-degree burns.

Prime Minister Garry Conille personally visited the site and stated that the most critically injured victims were airlifted to specialized care facilities. Additionally, ambulances have been dispatched to mitigate the strain on local hospitals struggling with the sudden influx of severe burn cases.

Eyewitnesses reported that the explosion occurred after the truck's gas tank was punctured, leading people to gather and collect the leaking fuel. This tragic event follows a similar incident in 2021 in Cap-Haitien, which also resulted in numerous fatalities. The underlying causes include fuel delivery issues in the region and increasing gang-related disruptions surrounding the capital, Port-au-Prince.
