The Calcutta High Court has issued a directive to the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) to complete the appointment process for 14,052 candidates as assistant teachers in state government-sponsored and aided upper primary schools within 12 weeks.

The order came from a division bench comprising Justices Tapabrata Chakraborty and Partha Sarathi Chatterjee, following the hearing of 36 appeals based on various orders from a single bench that had challenged the appointment process through the State Level Selection Test (SLST), 2016.

The court mandated the SSC to prepare and publish the final merit list and panel for the 14,052 candidates within four weeks from the order date. It also directed that counselling for the candidates be held within a subsequent four-week period, and appointment letters be issued by the competent authority within another four weeks, all in accordance with the law.
